Where We’ve Been... and What’s Coming Next!
It’s been a while since we last shared an update here! If you’ve been wondering where we’ve disappeared to, the short answer is: home. After saying we were temporarily closing our shop back in January, we packed up not only our business but our whole lives for a big move and renovation adventure.
Initially, we thought we would be open again in a few weeks, but the purchase of our cottage in the countryside took six months to go through. When we finally arrived in March, we quickly realised that running a business during renovations would be near impossible. Anyone who has ever done a back to scratch renovation will know the sheer amount of dust, rubble, muck and grime that comes with starting electrics, plumbing, and heating from scratch.
Between unpacking boxes and brewing our new baby daughter (Stevie arrived in August 2025!), there simply wasn’t enough space, physically or mentally, for my stock, packaging, and photography. So I pressed the HARD PAUSE button, knowing it would not be forever but not knowing when we would reopen.
This was tough. Our little business has been our lives for the past five years, and every time I saw my stock sitting there, waiting to be loved, it felt like someone had cut a little piece of my heart out.
The last ten months have been a whirlwind of DIY and content creation. For those who haven’t found us via @cottageofbrunswick you might not know that our renovations accidentally went viral. We’ve been sharing our journey with followers as far away as Brazil, India, and New Zealand.
Once we had clean running water, an indoor toilet and shower, and a functioning kitchen, our attention turned to the outbuilding we had planning permission for in the garden. In June, work started on what I’m calling my studio - quite literally a childhood dream come true. A space entirely dedicated to the shop, to creativity, and to craft. The room I’m typing this from is filled with all my vintage treasures, patiently waiting for me to relaunch.
And here I am now.
Now that the paint has mostly dried and we finally have a workspace again, we’re so excited to start reopening. We’ve been quietly collecting new pieces along the way, from flea markets to car boot sales to tiny antique shops, and we can’t wait to bring them to you all.
We’ll be back online soon with a refreshed collection, and maybe even some home-inspired styling tips from our renovation journey.
Thank you to everyone who has sent messages, waited patiently, and followed along while we took this much-needed “break.” (Interpret that term very loosely; this has been the most full-on ten months of our lives.) We’ve missed this community and can’t wait to get back to sharing the things we love most: beautiful old things with stories to tell.
Here’s to new beginnings.
