Research gives me very little information about this ashtray or why it was made but I can date this incredible ashtray to 1923 - making this a wonderful 100 year old antique. We picked this up in France because we loved the bold font of the 'Le Bon Vin est un Vinrivain' design.
Dimensions: 13cm x 14cm
Pre-loved: some age to the porcelain and the branding.
A brief history of Badonviller:
The history of the Badonviller earthenware factory begins in 1828 when Nicolas Fenal acquired a pottery in Pexonne, originally founded in 1710. Over time, the Fenal family expanded their operations, including Théophile Fenal establishing a competing factory in Badonviller in 1897. Despite the area's lack of raw materials, the region's abundant wood supply supported the industry, alongside a rich tradition of faience, glass, and crystal production.
In 1921, the Fenal family consolidated operations by acquiring factories in Lunéville and St. Clément, and during the 20th century, renowned artists contributed to the company's creations. In 1963, these factories merged, and by the 1980s, the Fenal group joined forces with Sarreguemines. Production eventually centralized in St. Clément after Badonviller's factory closed in 1990.
