The art of pottery has been practised in Soufflenheim since 1000 BC. It is made from Soufflenheim clay, also known as "terre glaise", which is taken from the Haguenau forest in Alsace.
This clay is difficult to extract but the culinary quality of Soufflenheim clay is unique. It has contributed to the development of dishes from Alsace: Baeckeoffe, Choucroute, Kougelhopf, Escargots or Tartes Flambées Alsaciennes.
