This French jug has a really strong, sculptural shape, with a broad rounded body, narrow neck and deep brown glaze concentrated around the handle and rim.
The contrast between the raw, sandy stoneware and the darker glazed top gives it much more presence than a standard utility jug. It has the look of a piece that was made to work hard, but has aged into something that feels almost decorative by accident.
A very good piece for shelves, flowers or simply standing on its own.
