A wonderful little collection of French everyday history, from old matchboxes and pencil packaging to advertising tins, haberdashery and some rather ingenious wooden parcel carriers.
Sold together as one collection. Empty boxes other than the items shown in photos.
I particularly love the five wooden advertising handles, known in France as poignées porte-paquets. These were designed to hook onto the string around paper-wrapped purchases, making parcels much more comfortable to carry home. A lovely reminder of how shopping used to be!
The collection includes:
- Five vintage French wooden advertising parcel carriers with metal hooks
- A colourful Jonchets game box
- French advertising matchboxes, including La Cocarde and Drapeaux
- A red Carbonum Rilson advertising tin
- Suedalope by Vico garment-cleaning product packaging
- Penkalu No. 260 packaging by J. B. Mallat, Paris
- Baignol & Farjon red pencil lead packaging
- Scotsman slate pencil box
- Capsule BIB packaging
- An ornate Maison A. Boucicaut, Paris advertising box
- A pair of old metal scissors with a worn protective case
Some pieces are beautifully preserved, others wonderfully battered. Together, they're a fascinating little snapshot of French shops, schoolrooms and everyday life.
Dimensions: Various sizes.
Pre-loved: Mixed vintage condition, with age-related wear, fading, marks and some damaged packaging. Contents and functionality have not been individually tested.
