A small French jam jar from Savoie, made in warm yellow-glazed terracotta with hand-painted fruit and leaves around the body. Confiture is incised across the front, tying the decoration neatly back to its original use.
Savoyard pottery was made for everyday Alpine homes, so pieces like this tend to be practical first and decorative second. That mix is exactly what makes it appealing now: simple shape, loose brushwork, earthy colour and a few tiny rim chips that show its age.
A great little piece of French kitchen pottery for utensils, flowers or herbs.
